Spindel 300W Laundry Dryer — Variant: 6.5kg Loader

After weighing up the options between a tumble dryer and the Spindel, we decided to purchase the Spindel. It speeds up the time clothes take to dry on the line which is a great help when you're not able to hang clothes out in the sun. It does not dry the clothes completely, of course, but it does use less electricity than a tumble dryer. The downside - it is quite plastic (but 'light' in weight), it does not come with a dispensing unit for the excess water and it doesn't haven't a timer. When the rains came again and I was babysitting washing I decided to jump in and buy a Spindel. I was hesitant, it's expensive and I didn't want to land up with a bunch of creased laundry. But I have now crossed over. I'm glad I did it. I haven't awarded 5 stars cos I wanted almost dry washing. High expectations. However, I get between 400 an 600 ml of water out of my washing load. It does make huge a difference. The best is there are no added creases! Bargain. I don't use fabric softener but the washing is softened by the spin. I bought a small dryer, divide my load into 2 and spin away. While I wait the 3 minutes I do some hit squats and lunges. You have to fill the machine. Make sure nothing can spin loose at the top. Go for it. It will make you smile. Enjoy the rain. Read more

I feel the claims are very misleading compared to real life use. 4.5kg wet weight means literally just a couple of towels otherwise it spins out of control! You literally have to stand and stabilise it so that it doesn't take off across the floor. No dedicated water collecting unit means finding a container that'll fit under the spout with the excess water going everywhere if there's any movement... Can't believe I wasted over R2000 on something I find totally impractical and only used twice.... Read more

I too, might have given it a good review after the first use as it does indeed take out litres of water, especially with laundry washed by hand, but really happy that I didn't buy mine from Yuppiechef as it is by far the most destructive piece of equipment I have come across up to date. Definitely NOT suitable for delicate items or anything with stretch as good quality pure cotton socks and towels amongst other items have been completely ruined in a singular less than three minute cycle. Items with buttons or zips are completely out of the question, as well as anything with elasticated ribbing.
Despite the successful marketing and good reviews, I would definitely not recommend the Spindel dryer for people that take loving care of that which they adore and have worked for. Hope the review saves someone else a bit of heartache to say the least! Read more

So very happy to have invested in a Spindel!
You cannot believe how much water is removed from the clothes during spinning.
During winter our jeans usually takes up to 3 days to dry completely! After using the Spindel they were dry overnight!! Amazing.

I've been using my Spindel for 2 years now. As someone who doesn't own a washing machine, this machine is more than a necessity. 3-5mins (depending on the toughness of the item) and it's ready for a very short time in the sun, or to dry overnight. I haven't had any problems with delicates being damaged, and jeans are no longer a dampness issue that sit out waiting to dry for days if the sun doesn't come out. As long as you pack it properly (heaviest item at the bottom, and a larger item at the top to form a cover) and that the weight is sensibly distributed, it won't wobble much. Once you've packed it a few times, you just do the routine automatically without thinking about it. My only regret is not having the 6.5kg Spindel so I can dry blankets, but I don't often do massive loads of laundry. 4.5kg Spindel happily takes a queen size bed set. Read more

Takes a bit of practise when first using it, as one needs to pack it well so that it spins efficiently but it definitely spins a lot of water out of the washing! Works really well for towels. Finally my washing dries within a day in winter!

Excellent product! We live off-grid so electricity usage is important. This little machine manages to remove most of the moisture in just 3 minutes, plus the power usage while running is very low. Highly recommend this product!

I've had a Spindel for over 3 years and I can't live without it! Especially during Cape Winters where nothing dries properly. I love that my clothes never have that damp, lingering smell anymore and I can dry them indoors, over night. There is something so satisfying about watching all that excess water come out the spout...highly recommended!

This product really works. Amazing how much water still comes out even after a washing machine spin. Works great for knits and delicates. You have to hold the machine while it starts spinning, then it levels out and is stable. Will buy a second one.

I was just thinking this morning what a wonderful and amazing purchase this has been. I have owned the Spindel now for a couple of weeks, and it never fails to amaze and thrill me to see just how much 'extra' water it takes out of my washing! The clothes dry much quicker and somehow they have less creases! I would highly recommend purchasing this product! Great timing for this time of year when the washing takes that much longer to dry!

Tested this Spindel in the rainy weather. Usually it takes days to dry washing in Cape Town during winter. Washed bedding, spin-dried it in the Spindel and hung it inside the house (it was raining). Bedding was dry and back on the bed that same evening.

Wow, I have loved loved loved this purchase. Brought it when my Domestic was on a month's leave and I had to take up the slack. An absolute winner - a no brainer!! Highly recommend to any household, small enough for a single person and plenty big enough for a family. Tumble dryer electricity bills - an expense of the past, and no clothing shrinkage!! This Spindel takes so much more water out that shirts are almost dry.... Bought it for night before school washing and also in rainy periods so that the tumble dryer does not have to be on as long - really a worthwhile investment

I use it for every washload, all year round. It’s so satisfying to see all the soapy water that my washing machine couldn’t remove pouring out of the Spindel. Love it for all my delicate items too and I can even reuse the water that is extracted.

Dump the expensive dryer and get this Spinner and an internal Retractaline.
Get the 6.5kg version though still looks small when it arrives. Don’t let size fool you! This is a real winner!
P.S. Added bonus: Your housekeeper will LOVE you. Easy to use and makes her life SO much easier!

A brilliant must have! It is amazing how much water is still released after your washing comes out of the washing machine. I now can afford to tumble my towels because once I've spun them in the Spindel just a short cycle in the tumble dryer leaves me with soft towels. Definitely worth having!!

Our ancient tumble dryer was using too much electricity, so we decided to give this fabulous gadget a try. My domestic worker was suspicious at first, but now I see she uses the Spindel after every load - even when it's sunny outside. We only tumble dry our towels for a short while to fluff them.

With a washing line which gets no sun in winter and a tired tumble dryer which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, the Spindel dryer fills the gap. Amazing how much water comes out of a load, needing just a little extra drying before ironing or putting away.

Up to 500mls of water drained from a load of towels after the washing machine has concluded its 1200rpm spin cycle. The drying time on the line halved, if not reduced by 3/4 of the time. Inside drying time reduced drastically. Having a baby in the house, I wish I had this amazing product in the winter months!

This is the most fantastic product. It makes laundry so much easier living in an apartment. It's amazing how much water comes out, it doesn't crease the laundry and makes it dry SO much faster - our linen dries overnight hanging in the bathroom. I put all of the laundry in the Spindle before hanging. No need for a tumble dryer and much better for your clothes and the planet!

It really does remove a lot of water from each load (that is after the washing machine has done its spin cycle). Tumble dryer times reduced by at least an hour. Clothes can completely air dry even on a cold winter's day. The clothes do need to be packed down tightly to get best results.

My tumble dryer broke and as I'd been contemplating getting one of these for a long time, took the plunge. It is incredible how much water it extracts from the items and it definitely reduces the drying time (I am writing this in the middle of winter) but I still think I might get a tumble dryer to fluff out the fabric - especially bath towels etc.

I am absolutely in love with my Spindel. I wish I had bought the larger one — using it virtually every single day. There isn't any other appliance that I use as much. The amount of water that it spins out is astonishing. If you have more than 2 in your household buy the bigger one — you will not be sorry. My laundry dries in half of the time! Buy one today!

This is a great product IF you have the perfect load size and manage to fold the clothes perfectly. If not the machine spins out of control and I am very sure won't last long. It's such a mission to pack the load perfectly (if you manage to do so at all) that it really isn't a joy to use!

I was really excited about buying this product having read the “rave” reviews. I’ve tried 2 machines, thinking the first one was faulty but unfortunately for me, this was totally unsuccessful. The washing is no dryer from the Spindel than that coming out of the washing machine. If you have a good washing machine that spins on 1200 - 1400 rpm then the Spindel is a total waste of time.
As always Yuppiechef were a pleasure to deal with and there was no problem with returning this item. But I do feel that Yuppiechef should update their reviews. Their’s are from 2015!! Read more

I recently bought the 6kg Spindel and cannot stop raving about how efficient it is to my family and friends. The amount of water that is extracted from spun-dried towels is impressive and decreases drying-time dramatically. I've washed 'handwash only' knitwear on 'delicate' in my washing machine and then placed them in the Spindel for a couple of minutes - after that they dried in no time at all. Very impressed with this product - so much better than a tumble dryer and far more economical to run. Read more

The Spindel Eco Dryer makes my washing day about 4 to 5 hours shorter. I'm done with washing by 11am instead of 3pm. It makes a huge difference. I am very happy with my latest purchase.
